Lost a Dental Crown While Traveling in Japan
Lost a Dental Crown While Traveling in Japan?
Dental Crown Emergency in Osaka – Yanagida Dental Clinic
Traveling in Japan is an exciting experience, but unexpected dental problems can sometimes interrupt your trip.
One common dental emergency is a crown becoming loose or falling off while eating or brushing your teeth.
If this happens during your stay in Osaka, don't panic. At Yanagida Dental Clinic, we provide dental care in English for international visitors and tourists.
What Should You Do If Your Dental Crown Falls Off?
If your dental crown becomes loose or falls off, here are some important steps to follow:
1. Keep the crown safe
If possible, carefully remove the loose crown from your mouth and store it in a clean container. Bring it with you to your dental appointment.
2. Avoid chewing on the affected tooth
The exposed tooth may be sensitive or fragile. Try to avoid chewing hard or sticky foods on that side of your mouth.
3. Do not use household glue
Never attempt to reattach your crown using superglue or other household adhesives. These products are not suitable for dental use and may damage your tooth or surrounding tissues.
4. Contact a dentist as soon as possible
Even if you are not experiencing pain, the exposed tooth may be vulnerable to further damage. A dental examination is recommended.
Can a Fallen Dental Crown Be Reattached?
In many cases, a dental crown can be reattached if the crown and the underlying tooth are in good condition.
At Yanagida Dental Clinic, Dr. Yanagida will carefully examine the affected tooth and assess whether the original crown can be safely re-cemented.
Depending on the condition of the tooth, treatment options may include:
Re-cementing the original dental crown
Repairing a damaged tooth
Placing a temporary restoration or temporary crown
Recommending further treatment if the tooth is fractured or decayed
An X-ray may be necessary to evaluate the condition of the tooth beneath the crown.
Our goal is to provide appropriate treatment to help protect your tooth during your travels.
What If Your Crown Cannot Be Reattached?
Sometimes, the original crown cannot be reused because of tooth decay, a fracture, or damage to the crown itself.
In these situations, a temporary restoration may be possible to protect the tooth until you can visit your regular dentist after returning home.
We can also provide an English dental treatment report to help your dentist understand the treatment performed in Japan.
